Award winning local playwright and author Ken Yoshikawa and respected theater artist and performer Alanna Fagan team up to create "Every Pretty Thing" a choreopoem exploring modern relationships in the world of Pop Psychology and Insta Therapy. Through a kaleidoscope performance of movement and language, Fagan and Yoshikawa unpack the way social media fragments perceptions of relationships, and examine what happens when we do "all of the right things” and find that we are still human in the end. Interweaving their first gen, third culture viewpoints as Japanese and Chinese Americans respectively, Yoshikawa and Fagan use their queer and neurodivergent lens to challenge the dominant paradigm and American hegemony. With Fagan’s dance and movement expertise and Yoshikawa’s prestigious writing experience, they illuminate the duality of love informed by attachment styles, adoption, biracial identities, living outside the gender binary, and the universal humanness of giving and being selfish.
